The overall objective of this programme is to contribute to Nepal’s sustainable and inclusive economic growth and poverty reduction. The project is expected to achieve the following outputs:
1) Enhanced capacities of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies (MoICS) and the Trade and Export Promotion Center (TEPC) to formulate trade policies, negotiate trade agreements and effectively implement them; 2 ) Trade facilitation and export policies toolbox is developed;
3) Increased capacity throughout Nepal’s coffee value chain; and 4) Increased capacity throughout Nepal’s pashmina value chain. Under the trade facilitation component, the project will aim at 1) strengthen the institutional and operational set-up of the National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC); 2) build private sector's capacity to understand the benefits of the WTO TFA and advocate for its implementation; 3) prioritize and sequence the implementation of Category C commitments, laying out technical assistance requirements; 4) support focused implementation of specific TFA measures; and 5) enhance exporters' compliance with cross-border requirements to export from Nepal.
